The training program "Greentech Summer Camp 2021" was held

The training program “Greentech Summer Camp 2021” was organized within the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Energy and Masdar and bp on 7-8 July 2021.

The training program was held both physically and online at the Gobustan Hybrid Power Plant under Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agengy under the Ministry of Energy. The main theme of the program was the use of renewable energy sources, solar and wind energy, offshore wind energy, hydrogen energy, the production of “green hydrogen” by electrolysis, the basics of hydrogen fuel elements and the introduction of “green energy” technologies. Specialists of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency, Masdar and bp made reports and discussions were held on them.

On the second day of the training, the participants were awarded with certificates. Head of Administration of the Ministry of Energy Zaur Mammadov, the Head of Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan Tabriz Ammayev, bp`s Vice-President Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli and General Manager of Masdar Husain Al Meer attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Zaur Mammadov congratulated the participants of the training program and wished them success in their future activities. It was noted that the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources was identified by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev as one of the important priorities of the socio-economic development course in the country until 2030, as well as achieving a clean environment: “The goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in Azerbaijan's power engineering system to 30%, the measures taken in connection with the involvement of private and foreign investments, in particular the plans for the transformation of the liberated territories into a “green energy zone” provide great opportunities for the development of energy cooperation with international companies. Within this cooperation, special attention is paid to information and exchange of experience for educational and related institutions, which are obvious examples of the current two-days training program.”

Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, bp’s vice president on communications and advocacy for the Middle East and Caspian regions, said: “We are pleased that the Government of Azerbaijan has actively joined the global efforts to meet the world’s need for the lower carbon energy and is working to develop a sustainable renewable energy sector in the country. As Azerbaijan’s long-term and reliable partner we remain ready to support the country’s efforts to bring international knowledge and help experience sharing in the use of renewable energy. We see this as another valuable opportunity for us to expand our energy cooperation and support Azerbaijan throughout its energy transition journey. This is also in line with our new aim, target and strategy aimed at reshape the understanding of energy for people and our planet. Our new ambition is to achieve net zero by 2050 or sooner, and help the world get there, as well as our new strategy that sets out how bp will deliver its ambition.”

Husain Al Meer, general manager of asset management and technical services of Masdar, said.

The students of ADA University, Baku Higher Oil School, Azerbaijan Technical University and Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, bp, Masdar, "Azerenergy" OJSC attended the training program.
