AREA organized seminars on green hydrogen and energy storage systems

Seminars on green hydrogen and energy storage systems was organized by Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA) under the Ministry of Energy, with representatives of the "ACWA Power" company of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Head of AREA's Hydrogen and green technologies department, Rena Humbatova welcomed the participants and informed about the measures implemented in the direction of the development of green hydrogen and energy storage systems in our country.

It was noted that the action plan of the "Strategy of socio-economic development in 2022‒2026" envisages the study of the potential in the field of hydrogen production and its usage and identification for pilot projects in this field. With the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a country report on "Low-carbon hydrogen economy market study" has been prepared. 

The representatives of "ACWA Power" made a presentation on the energy storage systems. The director of the company's Hydrogen business development department, Hammad Masood, informed about the green hydrogen business projects, the forecasted hydrogen demand until 2050 and other issues. Discussion were carried out about the application of modern technologies to ensure of business projects sustainability, the potential of exporting green hydrogen from Azerbaijan and using it domestic application. Amita Beria, executive director of the business development department for energy storage systems, made a presentation and emphasized the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding on the development of energy storage systems signed with the "ACWA Power" company in February of 2023, and Q&A session.

The seminar continued with mutual discussions.

Representatives of the Ministry of Energy, AREA, Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency under the Ministry of Energy (AERA), Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, "Azerenergy" OJSC and "Azerishiq" OJSC participated in the seminar.
